A Week in the Life of Jesus: How you can make disciples in a week?
[This brief outline is taken from John 1:19-2:12]
DAY 1
On Day 1, John the Baptist (Jesus’ cousin) shouts in the wilderness – ‘Prepare the way of the Lord!’
John told the Pharisees, “I baptize in water, but right here in the crowd is someone you do not recognize. Though his ministry follows mine, I’m not even worthy to be his slave and untie the straps of his sandal”
So on day 1, Jesus was hidden among the crowd…
DAY 2
On Day 2, John says to those following him; ‘Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!‘ – He was pointing at Jesus when he said this…
DAY 3
On Day 3, two of Johns disciples decide to follow Jesus… they ask Jesus, ‘Where are you staying?’
‘Come and See’, he replies. It’s about 4pm in the afternoon when they go back to his place. They stay there for the rest of the day.
Andrew was one of the men who followed Jesus that day. He went to get his brother Simon Peter and told him, ‘We have found the Messiah’
Looking intently at Simon, Jesus said, “Your name is Simon, son of John – but you will be called Cephas” (which means “Peter” or “rock”)
DAY 4
Jesus decides to go to Galilee. He finds Philip and says to him, ‘Come, follow me’. Philip was from Bethsaida, Andrew and Peter’s hometown
Philip then goes to look for Nathanael – as they approached, Jesus said, “Now here is a genuine son of Israel – a man of complete integrity”
“How do you know about me?” Nathanael asked
Jesus replied, “I could see you under the fig tree before Philip found you”
DAY 5
Jesus only met his first disciples 3 days ago… but there’s a wedding in Cana. Jesus’ mother and brothers were all there.
So Jesus and his five new disciples all go along to the wedding together…
Jesus turned water into wine
This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed his glory. And his disciples believed in him
DAY 6 & 7
After the wedding, Jesus goes to Capernaum for a few days with his mum, brothers and disciples…
All in a Week’s Work
So within 7 days, Jesus gathered 5 new disciples;
—Andrew and an unnamed disciple (possibly John)
—Simon Peter (Andrews brother)
—Philip (from Andrew & Peters hometown Bethsaida)
—Nathanael (Philips friend from Cana)
The first disciples called by Jesus all reach out immediately to their friends and family…
This is how you can begin to make disciples within a week of starting…
